چکیده

The Gaia satellite, planned for launch by the European Space Agency (ESA) in 2013, is the next generation astrometry mission following Hipparcos. While mapping the whole sky, the Gaia space mission is expected to discover thousands of Solar System Objects. These will include Near-Earth Asteroids and serve with ground-based telescopes. We present the results of simulations for the detection of Trojan asteroids in the orbits of Earth and Mars by Gaia.

Gaia and the asteroids: Local test of GR

We present in the following some capabilities of the Gaia mission for performing local test of General Relativity (GR) based on the astrometry of asteroids. This ESA cornerstone mission, to be launched in Spring 2012, will observe—in addition to the stars and QSOs—a large number of small solar system bodies with unprecedented photometric and, mostly, astrometric precisions. Indeed, it is expect...

Reference frame linking and tests of GR with Gaia astrometry of asteroids

The Gaia satellite, an ESA cornerstone mission to be launched at the end of the year 2011, will observe a large number of celestial bodies including also small bodies of the solar system. Albeit spread from the inner to the outer regions of the solar system, these are mainly near-Earth objects and main-belt asteroids. All objects brighter than magnitude V 20 that cross the field of view (i.e. w...

Current status and development of the SSO FUN alerts

The astrometry mission Gaia of the European Space Agency (ESA) will scan the entire sky several times over 5 years, down to a visual apparent magnitude of 20. Apart for its primary targets, the stars, that will be mapped during the course of the mission, Gaia is expected to observe more than 300,000 asteroids (Mignard et al., 2007). Although our census of asteroids is about complete at a such m...

Near-Infrared Spectroscopy of Trojan Asteroids: Evidence for Two Compositional Groups

Introduction: Jupiter's Trojan asteroids occupy a unique location in the Solar System which places them at the crux of several of the most interesting outstanding issues regarding the formation and evolution of planetary systems. As primitive objects, their compositions conceal direct clues to the conditions of the nebula in the region in which they formed. At first glance, they seem to fit nea...

Fraction of Contact Binary Trojan Asteroids

We present the results of an optical lightcurve survey of 114 Jovian Trojan asteroids conducted to determine the fraction of contact binaries. Sparse-sampling was used to assess the photometric range of the asteroids and those showing the largest ranges were targeted for detailed follow-up observations. This survey led to the discovery of two Trojan asteroids, (17365) and (29314) displaying lar...
